My name is Dr. Michael Kralovec. I completed my residency training in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic and then followed this with an additional fellowship in complex hip and knee replacement at Harvard University. I trained at the best institutions because I wanted to be able to provide the best possible care to my patients. There, I had the benefit of helping perform some of the most challenging and cutting-edge orthopedic surgeries in the world.

I trained at the best institutions because I wanted to be able to provide the best possible care to my patients.
There, I had the benefit of helping perform some of the most challenging and cutting-edge orthopedic surgeries in the world. I helped perform over 1,000 surgeries at Mayo and Harvard and worked with over 20 different world-renowned surgeons. I have had an incredible opportunity to learn the best techniques and experiences from each of these talented surgeons.
My area of research interest is in pain control and early rehabilitation in total hip and knee replacement. During my time at the Mayo Clinic, I co-authored a study evaluating the use of a new pain control technique in total knee replacement that can have fewer side effects than other techniques. This technique allows patients to be up walking the same day of surgery with limited pain. My goal is to get patients through surgery with as little pain as possible and recovered from surgery and back to the activities they love as quickly as possible.
Before medical school, I received a double degree in biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering from Duke University and often incorporate my engineering background by using computer simulation to help plan surgeries. At Mayo and Harvard, I have had experience with robotic-assisted surgeries and also with custom 3-D printed orthopedic implants for extremely challenging cases.
Although all of my technical training and experience has been on the cutting edge, my approach to patient care is very traditional. It can be summed up by a quote from Dr. William Mayo who founded the Mayo Clinic in the 1800’s. “The needs of the patient are the only interest to be considered.”
The patient/surgeon relationship is very important, and I have a lifelong bond with my patients. I look forward to meeting you in my clinic and having the opportunity to serve you.
