Overall, I wanted to share feedback regarding my surgery experience on May 21, 2026.
First, I would like to acknowledge the professionalism, care, and confidence demonstrated by the orthopedic team throughout the process. From consultation through surgery, I felt informed, respected, and cared for. Their communication helped create trust during what can naturally be an anxious experience for a patient and family.
I especially appreciated the way concerns and questions were handled with patience and professionalism. That level of bedside manner made a significant difference for both me and my wife.
Unfortunately, our interaction with the anesthesiologist created a very different experience.
My wife asked a question about fentanyl because she was advocating for me and trying to better understand the medications involved in my care. Instead of feeling reassured or educated, the response came across as sarcastic and dismissive, particularly comments referencing “street drugs.” The inte

Dr. Michael Casale, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery.
Dr. Casale provides comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care of foot and ankle conditions including, but not limited to, sports injuries, fractures, arthritis, and deformity. He is also skilled in the latest techniques in total ankle replacement.
Dr. Casale grew up in Cary, NC and began his academic career at the University of North Carolina, where he graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He received his medical degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Dr. Casale then completed his surgical internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. During his residency. Dr. Casale was awarded the Resident of the Year award in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery as well as the Edward Frohlich Writing Award for outstanding resident research. He was also named a resident scholar by the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. After his residency, he completed a fellowship in Foot and Ankle surgery at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Casale has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters, and has given multiple podium and poster presentations at national and international conferences. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Outside of work, Dr. Casale lives in Raleigh with his wife and daughter. He enjoys being outside, watching sports, and attempting to learn how to play golf.
