Dr. Michael A. Lapuente received his undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis where also played college soccer. He attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed his internship and residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. He then finished a fellowship at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, The Children’s Mercy Hospital, where his area of research focused on exhaled nitric oxide.
Prior to working at Carolina Asthma and Allergy Center (CAAC), Dr. Lapuente was in private practice in upstate New York. He moved south in 2005 and joined CAAC. For fun, Dr. Lapuente enjoys listening to his son perform music, playing soccer with his daughter, and watching international soccer matches.

Doctor Lapuente is awesome. He’s super knowledgeable but also very attuned to his patients’ individual needs and care.

He took so much time to answer all my questions, never made me feel rushed, explained things in simple terms and was *so* thoughtful and friendly.

He is really great! I honestly wish he was a pediatrician. He used relatable terms to explain all things to us as parents. We left feeling informed and most importantly with laughter.
