Dr. Michael A. Lapuente received his undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis where also played college soccer. He attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed his internship and residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. He then finished a fellowship at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, The Children’s Mercy Hospital, where his area of research focused on exhaled nitric oxide.
Prior to working at Carolina Asthma and Allergy Center (CAAC), Dr. Lapuente was in private practice in upstate New York. He moved south in 2005 and joined CAAC. For fun, Dr. Lapuente enjoys listening to his son perform music, playing soccer with his daughter, and watching international soccer matches.

My experience with Dr. Michael was wonderful. I was very emotional when my previous doctor, Dr. Richard Silto, told me that he would be retiring soon, but he reassured me by saying that Dr. Michael would continue taking care of me. He described him as a great doctor and a good friend of his. At first, I was unsure about seeing Dr. Michael, and I even changed my appointment twice because I wasn’t certain about switching doctors. However, when Dr. Michael walked into the room and greeted me so warmly, I immediately felt comfortable. During my asthma checkup, he was very friendly, professional, and caring. I am very happy with my experience with Dr. Michael Lafuente and truly appreciate the excellent care he provided.
The doctor was kind, patient, and took the time to really listen to our concerns without making us feel rushed. He explained everything clearly and made sure we understood the possible causes of my son’s hives. I also appreciated how thorough he was during the appointment and how he answered all of our questions with care and professionalism.
He is a very patient and takes the time to explain everything to me.
