Dr. Michael A. Lapuente received his undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis where also played college soccer. He attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed his internship and residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. He then finished a fellowship at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, The Children’s Mercy Hospital, where his area of research focused on exhaled nitric oxide.
Prior to working at Carolina Asthma and Allergy Center (CAAC), Dr. Lapuente was in private practice in upstate New York. He moved south in 2005 and joined CAAC. For fun, Dr. Lapuente enjoys listening to his son perform music, playing soccer with his daughter, and watching international soccer matches.

He was so kind and explained everything to me. You can tell how much he cares for each patient. I’m grateful for him and the staff. Nurse Gale was the sweetest too.
I forgot to ask him about anything to do about drainage down my throat.
Dr. Lapuente is so thorough, so honest and so respectful. He is the only Dr. I have trusted in a very long time. It’s all about my COPD but I wish he was my PC!!! I just trust him and his knowledge!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this office and the care I received. In January, I lost my Marketplace insurance and have been unable to access my Dupixent medication. After struggling with my condition for more than 35 years, Dupixent has been the only treatment that has truly worked and significantly improved my quality of life. At my appointment today, Dr. Lapuente and staff went above and beyond to help me. They provided medication samples and offered guidance and support to help me navigate the process of obtaining my medication again. Their compassion, professionalism, and genuine concern for my well-being were evident every step of the way. The entire team is dedicated to ensuring patients receive the care and treatment they need, and they worked hard to help maintain continuity of my care during a very stressful time. My experience with Dr. Michael was wonderful. I was very emotional when my previous doctor, Dr. Richard Silto, told me that he would be retiring soon, but he reassured me by saying that Dr. Michael would continue taking care of me. He described him as a great doctor and a good friend of his. At first, I was unsure about seeing Dr. Michael, and I even changed my appointment twice because I wasn’t certain about switching doctors. However, when Dr. Michael walked into the room and greeted me so warmly, I immediately felt comfortable. During my asthma checkup, he was very friendly, professional, and caring. I am very happy with my experience with Dr. Michael Lafuente and truly appreciate the excellent care he provided.
