Dr. Melissa Sherman, MD, FASAM, is a dually board-certified physician at Essex County OB/GYN. She completed her undergraduate studies at Swarthmore College before earning her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Sherman underwent specialized residency training at Brown University/Women & Infants Hospital and has further distinguished her practice by obtaining board certification in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Addiction Medicine, alongside a Perinatal Mental Health Certification.
Dr. Sherman considers it a privilege to care for patients across the full spectrum of life’s major transitions, from adolescence and pregnancy to midlife and menopause. She is particularly dedicated to her addiction practice, where she builds strong relationships with patients in recovery and supports them as they thrive within a collaborative care team.
Dr. Sherman chose Essex County OB/GYN after witnessing the genuine camaraderie among the providers. She believes that a team that "breaks bread together" is one that works well together, and she maintains complete trust in her colleagues to provide outstanding, contemporary medical care.
Before her career in medicine, Dr. Sherman worked in medical journal publishing, including a role at the Journal of Neurosurgery. Today, she is an active member of the North Shore community. Outside of the office, she enjoys reading novels, spending time with her family, and walking along the ocean with friends. She finds the North Shore to be a vibrant area and loves living and working among its diverse towns and people.
