Dr. Medert’s Texas roots stem from his grandmother, who was born and raised in Mineral Wells, TX and his wife Paige, who is an Austin native. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Miami University in Biochemistry (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). He then graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. After medical school, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, which is the #1 Ophthalmology program in the United States. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment at Washington University in St. Louis under the tutelage of Dr. Arsham Sheybani. Prior to moving to Austin, he was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Chicago.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Medert has used research to investigate and evaluate a wide range of issues in ophthalmology. His work has been published in Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Glaucoma and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. Additionally, he has presented at annual meetings for the American Glaucoma Society and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, amongst others.
