From Dr. Wingate
I love to fix things! From an early age, I was very involved in athletic activities and with those activities came injuries. I vividly remember breaking my foot on my tenth birthday. I became a member of the OI family (known by a different name at that time) at a young age. I recall seeing Dr. Zoellner and Craig Steinborn who placed me into a cast and helped get me on the road to recovery.
My interest in putting things back together, combined with my love for the operating room, helped me choose the specialty of orthopedics. No other specialty affords you the opportunity to get people back on their feet and back to the activities they love and enjoy like the specialty of orthopedic surgery. Completing a prestigious fellowship in complex spinal reconstruction allows me to help patients with any spine condition—simple or complex, big or small. I also had extensive training in non-surgical treatment of spine conditions and patients can expect that I will exhaust non-surgical options before recommending a surgical fix.
The single most important philosophy in my practice is to treat my patients like I would want my family members to be treated. I strive to provide the highest level of compassion and thoughtfulness to each and every patient who comes through my door. I understand the importance of listening to my patients. Everyone has a story to tell. Each person is treated with the utmost respect whether they need reassurance and non-surgical treatment for a minor back strain or major spine reconstructive surgery. I am very proud to say that if a patient eventually requires a surgical procedure, they can rest assured that my PA and I will see them every day in the hospital to make sure their surgical course goes smoothly.

Waited 2 hours for the appointment which was normal!!’ He made some very insensitive comments and was quick with us! He used to be nice. Not sure if I want to continue with him.
Absolutely amazing! Professional, knowledgable, common sense, caring, honest, sense of humor, I felt like I won the lottery having him for a doctor! The very best of all he is an angel among us here on earth. He is a man who lives what he believes! I am blessed he is my doctor! New Surgical Patient in January!
Couldn’t find a better doctor.
Dr. Wingate is very kind and patient. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand. I feel very hopeful now that I know what is happening and why. Very grateful for him and his kind staff
He has done surgery on me before and I trust him
Hands down best spine orthopedic surgeon I have ever come across! He is truly a blessing! Wonderful with his patients, tells it straight up and to the point, using lay men’s terms for a great two way communication! His personality, bedside manner and specialty knowledge of his position goes above and beyond, answered my questions without hesitation, you can really tell how much he has learned and studied your medical record before he walks through the door. We need more doctors like this!
Wow, what an arrogant self important person. It was VERY clear from the moment he entered the exam room that I was wasting his time & he was going to make short work of me. I was not surgery material & he made it very clear there was nothing he could do for me. I wasn’t even sure he was going to sit down. He said “what can we do for you” & I told him I was in immense upper back pain & would like to have my recent MRI explained to me. He said “you have arthritis in your spine”. That’s it, nothing we can do. Do PT. I asked if he would look at my MRI with me & he disgustedly sat down & rapidly ran through the scan & then got up to leave.i asked about pain management & he begrudgingly said I could try dr Bruns, but I had to do PT or my ins wouldn’t pay. & then he left, he was in the room maybe 5”. He was clear that he was an important surgeon & that if he couldn’t do surgery, I was wasting his time& talent. I was in shock, I have never been treated so despicable by anyone. I never had any
Dr Wingate set down with my wife and me and explained my X-rays and MRI he was in know hurry. Great full for the time he gave us.
Friendly and explains things well.
