From Dr. Wingate
I love to fix things! From an early age, I was very involved in athletic activities and with those activities came injuries. I vividly remember breaking my foot on my tenth birthday. I became a member of the OI family (known by a different name at that time) at a young age. I recall seeing Dr. Zoellner and Craig Steinborn who placed me into a cast and helped get me on the road to recovery.
My interest in putting things back together, combined with my love for the operating room, helped me choose the specialty of orthopedics. No other specialty affords you the opportunity to get people back on their feet and back to the activities they love and enjoy like the specialty of orthopedic surgery. Completing a prestigious fellowship in complex spinal reconstruction allows me to help patients with any spine condition—simple or complex, big or small. I also had extensive training in non-surgical treatment of spine conditions and patients can expect that I will exhaust non-surgical options before recommending a surgical fix.
The single most important philosophy in my practice is to treat my patients like I would want my family members to be treated. I strive to provide the highest level of compassion and thoughtfulness to each and every patient who comes through my door. I understand the importance of listening to my patients. Everyone has a story to tell. Each person is treated with the utmost respect whether they need reassurance and non-surgical treatment for a minor back strain or major spine reconstructive surgery. I am very proud to say that if a patient eventually requires a surgical procedure, they can rest assured that my PA and I will see them every day in the hospital to make sure their surgical course goes smoothly.

First encounter. Dr. Wingate was extremely informative, pro and con. I appreciate that. And even with the technical explanations I left feeling prepared for the decision I’d made. I do not pretend surgery is something to look forward to but I am comfortable with this next step and once again OI steps up to their patient comfort, confidence and understanding of what will take place in my treatment.
He was very attentive to my issues and gave me all options going forward. Very kind and cordial!
Seemed very good. I like his approach, trying things before we resort to surgery
Dr. Wingate is an incredible doctor. He is highly educated and knowledgeable. He has the ability to communicate complicated health and care information clearly and with compassion. I am so grateful for Doctor Wingate and his fine team.
Very knowledgeable I was unsure of my situation and he explained what was going on and how to treat it
Very descriptive and professional. I now know exactly what my options are. I would recommend him to others.
Excellent visit. I would definitely go back to him for other problems.
Dr. Wingate was very concise and helpful, as have been all the physicians and staff at OI!
Dr Wingate is by far the sincerest, caring and professional person I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Nothing less than a hero!
I told this doctor that I’m an addict. He then told me how it is to be an addict. He kept going on and on so I yelled back to him that he is not an addict and he has no clue as to how proud I am to be 3 yrs clean! When I stopped crying he then showed me my X-rays and MRIs. No one has done that for me. That was the ONLY nice thing he said to me.
