Dr. Matthew J. Weiss is Board-Certified and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He provides the latest technology and treatments in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery.
Dr. Weiss is a native Floridian from Sarasota, Florida, and is a cum laude graduate of the University of Miami where he was number one in his class. He acquired his doctor of medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, serving as the co-president of the prestigious medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha, a distinction reserved for only the top 5% of each class.
He completed both his ophthalmology residency and his fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where he continues to return throughout the year as a volunteer assistant professor, teaching the next generation of eye specialists.
His many accolades include awards for his research investigating new treatments for blinding eye conditions. Dr. Weiss has also published several papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to numerous textbooks. In 2011, Dr. Weiss also became the first resident worldwide to use one of the three leading laser cataract systems currently approved for use in the U.S.
Outside of the office, Dr. Weiss enjoys spending time with his wife Taylor, a local elementary school teacher. He also has passions for traveling, cooking, photography, and of course University of Miami football.
