Dr. Traynor has worked on my eyes before when I had a bad infection. He was excellent then as he is now. He also performed cataract surgery on my wife's eyes and now it's my turn for my cataracts. I expect the same exceptional work on my eyes as he did on my wife's. Highly recommend Dr. Traynor and Premier Eye Care of Eastern Idaho.
Dr. Matthew Traynor lives in Idaho Falls with his wife, Ann, and six children. They moved to Idaho in 2009 after he finished his medical training.
Dr. Traynor was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. He grew up an avid fan of Arizona basketball and participated in football, student council, and choir in high school. After his first year of college at the University of Arizona, Dr. Traynor spent two years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in the Dominican Republic. When he returned, he enrolled at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Dr. Traynor graduated magna cum laude from BYU in April 2000. In August 2000, he began his medical studies at the University of Virginia School Of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. After graduation from medical school in May 2004, Dr. Traynor moved back to his hometown of Tucson, AZ for internship training.
From July 2005 to June 2008, Dr. Traynor was an ophthalmology resident at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City, OK. The Dean McGee Eye Institute has been recognized as one of the top ophthalmology training programs in the country due to the expertise of the supervising surgeons and physicians, the extremely high volume of surgery performed during residency, and the quality of education and research.
Following completion of ophthalmology residency, Dr. Traynor continued his training at the Dean McGee Eye Institute with a year of fellowship training to become a glaucoma specialist under the instruction of Dr. Gregory Skuta, past-president of the American Glaucoma Society and president-elect of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Steven Sarkisian, and Dr. Mahmoud Khaimi.
