Dr. Matthew Mai, M.D., is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in comprehensive hip surgery and hip preservation. He earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Southern Illinois University. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, he served multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan and Malawi. He specializes in advanced hip arthroscopy and anterior total hip arthroplasty.

He specializes in advanced hip arthroscopy for ischiofemoral impingement, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), labral tears, hip preservation, and anterior total hip arthroplasty. Dr. Mai is internationally recognized in the hip arthroscopy community and teaches hip arthroscopy courses across the country alongside other leaders in the field.
He began his academic career at the United States Air Force Academy before earning his medical degree from the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his General Surgery internship at the Iowa Health System and his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Southern Illinois University and Affiliated Hospitals.
After becoming an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Mai served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and one in Malawi. He spent the last eight years of his military career stationed at Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field. During his time in the Air Force, Dr. Mai received numerous commendations for his service to our country and developed his passion for hip preservation.
