Dr. Matthew Heckler, D.O. provides comprehensive general orthopedic surgery and sports medicine care with a focus on injuries of the shoulder, knee and hip. He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Association and fellowship trained in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Heckler has specialized training in complex rotator cuff and labral surgery of the shoulder, ACL and ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, anterior total hip replacement, and total joint replacement.
He has a particular interest in partial knee replacement, minimally invasive patient specific total joint arthroplasty, and MRI-computer based navigation joint replacement.
Dr. Heckler has previously worked as an assistant team physician for a number of professional sports teams including the NFL Minnesota Vikings, MLB Minnesota Twins, NBA Minnesota Timberwolves, NHL Minnesota Wild, WNBA Minnesota Lynx, and the NLL Minnesota Swarm.
Continuing to feed his passion for sports medicine, Dr. Heckler is the orthopedic team physician for Dayton's professional soccer club and the Dutch Lions. He also cares for many of our local high school athletes through the Dayton Sports Medicine Institute and the medical director for Wilson Sports Medicine.

Dr. Heckler always takes his time and addresses all my concerns.
Dr. Heckler is TOPS!! He explains everything from what's happening IN the joint as well as treatment options. He ultimately asks you for what you want, but he will give it to you straight as far as what he thinks would help. I love that he gives you everything you need to know!!!
