Dr. Matthew Gilbert is a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician who specializes in the evaluation and non-surgical treatment in a range of patients including elite athletes, children, non-athletes, hurt-on-the-job patients, senior citizens, and everything in between. A Memphis native, Dr. Gilbert was a Houston High School graduate before he received his undergraduate degree from Rhodes College and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine. He completed residency and fellowship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with the University of Alabama’s Family Medicine Residency and Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship programs. He is proficient in the evaluation and treatment of a variety of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions in patients of all ages. He is also experienced in the management of a number of general medical conditions like sports-related concussions, exertional heat illness, and cardiac issues in the athletic population. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Dr. Gilbert served as a member of the medical staff for the Crimson Tide, covering several programs including, among others, the women’s basketball team, the SEC champion gymnastics, and softball teams, and the national championship football team. Apart from university athletics, Dr. Gilbert has experience in covering high school state championship events, regional and national endurance sporting events, and mixed martial arts and boxing matches. He also served as head team physician for Brookwood High School and Holt High School in the Tuscaloosa area. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Gilbert’s current coverage will primarily include Rhodes College, the University of Memphis, the Memphis Redbirds, and Bartlett High School.

I am a 63 year old grand ma who works a physical job and had a busy life but my constant pain has consumed me and he disregarded me and expects me to live like this until I see yet another doctor and get a mri. I’m completely miserable and he could care less. My pain is off the charts. What kind of doctor thinks that is ok???? I am being compliant with everything they ask of me, I just needed. Some relief until they figure out what is causing me to hurt this way but he more or less told me to keep on suffering: that is unacceptable. I deserve better
I’m a person who puts off visiting a doctor until absolutely necessary. I felt like another get them in and out patient. The doctor did not ask history, about activity, anything. I went to this clinic because of the early walk in hours, but got that type of service. This was my second use of this clinic, and I will not return. I will go somewhere where they are interested in my symptoms and recovery
Very nice & efficient
Dr. Gilbert is a terrific person. He asks the right questions and listens well to the conversations that follow. He explains options and probabilities. I was very impressed.
