Dr. Matthew Bickford joined Palmetto Eye and Laser Center in August 2024. Dr. Bickford is originally from Aiken, SC and attended Clemson University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with general and department honors while earning a BS in Microbiology. He completed his medical degree at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Dr. Bickford continued in Charleston at the Storm Eye Institute where he completed his Residency in Ophthalmology. He also completed a Fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery; training with mentors at Boston Vision as well as Harvard’s teaching hospitals including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Friendly and thorough examination. I always ask questions and he answers in detail. I am so happy that I found this doctor two years ago.

Dr. Bickford is an outstanding doctor who truly goes above and beyond to make his patients feel comfortable and cared for. My husband suffers from PTSD, anxiety, and depression, which can make medical appts. and procedures especially difficult for him. From his initial office visit and eye exam to his cataract surgery, Dr. Bickford showed exceptional bedside manners, patience, kindness, and understanding. He made my husband feel safe, relaxed, and comfortable throughout the entire process. His compassionate approach and the way he treated my husband with such care and respect meant more to us than words can express. It is not always easy to find a doctor who understands the importance of caring for the whole person, not just the medical condition, but Dr. Bickford truly does. We are so grateful for the excellent care he provided and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate doctor who genuinely cares about his patients. Thank you!
