A board-certified orthopedic surgeon fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity surgery, Dr. Matthew Bengard completed his medical degree at U.C. "Because I grew up in the Rogue Valley, I understand the people of this community and work hard to translate that into a personal connection with each patient that allows me to be more effective as their physician."
Having dedicated his life to serving the underserved, Dr. Bengard has volunteered his surgical expertise in third-world hospitals of Paraguay, served in the Peace Corps, and worked in education and social services before beginning his medical career. He is bilingual in English and Spanish and enjoys working with patients of all backgrounds.
A cornerstone of Dr. Bengard’s approach is founded on the principles of preventative medicine and helping patients achieve a better quality of life.
"I love the chance to make ‘believers’ out of patients. Some come in with terrible pain and dysfunction - and they think it can’t or won’t ever get better. I’m able to offer them a chance to improve their quality of life - sometimes in small ways and sometimes in very dramatic ways. It is both personally and professionally rewarding to be the person who accompanies them on that journey."

I wouldn’t go to anyone else. Dr. Bengard gives
Very knowledgeable with care towards his patients
Always professional and honest. Excellent care . I always recommend my friends. Thank you
His comments were unnecessary and not supportive to my healing.
The doctor helped guide me to a decision that was best for my current situation.
Dr. Benard was very informative about the carpel tunnel procedure. He was cordial, but I felt he was rushing through things. The procedure went great. However, I had complications afterward and he did take proper measures to help, he wasn't empathetic to my frustration and had no real answer as to why I was having issues.
Dr. Bengard provided highly competent care/treatment. However, he seemed annoyed that I was there, and was rude at the start of the appointment, apparently in response to a confusing referral.
I always get more then I asked for.
Patient friendly
Dr Matt figured out what was causing my pain in my hand and resolved it quickly! First time in a year I’ve been pain free!
