Dr. Matt McKean was born and raised in Mobile and graduated from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. He received his undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences from Auburn University and his medical degree from The University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. Following medical school, he completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at The University of Mississippi Medical Center. He then went on to complete a year-long fellowship in advanced orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery at Washington University in St. Louis.
As a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. McKean specializes in the management of orthopaedic related conditions affecting the lower extremity, especially the knee, foot and ankle. His fellowship training involved all aspects of foot and ankle surgery from sports related injuries and fracture management to complex reconstructive surgery including total ankle replacements.
In his free time, Dr. McKean enjoys spending time with his wife, Barclay, and two sons, Bender and Walker. He also enjoys boating, playing golf and following college sports.

We had an outstanding experience with Dr. McKean. From the very first appointment, he was incredibly thorough and took the time to sit with us, answer every question, and address every concern. He developed such a great rapport with my teenage son, which made a huge difference and made my son feel at-ease throughout his surgery and recovery. My son’s healing process took about six months, and Dr. McKean was with us every step of the way. His consistency, encouragement, and clear communication helped us know exactly what to expect and made the journey so much easier. His office staff deserves mention as well—they were always friendly, helpful, and efficient, making scheduling and follow-ups completely stress-free. We are so grateful for Dr. McKean’s expertise and genuine care. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking truly exceptional orthopedic care.

He was amazing! I was not kept in the dark of each thing he was checking about my ankle. He gave thorough instructions of how we were going to work on my ankle and how it would assist with my discomfort now and in the long run. 10 out of 10 recommend! 👍
