Mark G. Smith, M.D.

Dr. Mark G. Smith, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over 35 years of experience, specializes in arthroscopic and open shoulder surgeries, total joint replacement of the shoulder and knee, knee ligament and cartilage surgery, and sports medicine. Joining Ellis & Badenhausen Orthopaedics in 1993, he has also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1994. A recognized leader in his field, Dr. Smith has lectured extensively across the United States on upper and lower extremity injuries. His accolades include being named the Sports Medicine Person of the Year by the Kentucky Athletic Trainers Society and “Top Doc” in Orthopaedics by Louisville Magazine. He has provided medical care as a team physician for the University of Louisville, Bellarmine University, the Louisville Bats, and multiple area high schools. Dr. Smith is an active member of professional organizations such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Kentucky Orthopaedic Society.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Centre College, his medical degree from the University of Louisville, and completed his orthopedic residency and surgical internship at the University of Louisville. He furthered his expertise with a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama.
