Welcome to OrthoIllinois!
I very much look forward to being able to provide your care and help you resume a more pain free and active life! I’d like to share a little background on how I came to be a total joint specialist and the focus of my practice.
I am a long-term Midwesterner, in fact my hometown is Tremont, Illinois, located southeast of Peoria in central Illinois. Growing up, I spent a lot of time working alongside my father, who was a carpenter by trade. I think my earliest influences for a medical career were piqued by my mother. As a nurse, she impressed upon me the difference medical care can make in people’s lives. I also learned the values derived from hard work by helping out on my grandfather’s farm.
As a youth, I also found time for competitive activities and was a three-sport athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. It was through playing sports and sustaining various injuries that required treatment procedures that I was first exposed to orthopedics. With a growing interest in how the body works and heals, I pursued my undergraduate degree in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a recipient of two scholarships and graduating with Highest Honors on the Dean’s List.
I followed my undergraduate studies at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria where I earned my medical degree as a Graduate of Distinction. I remained in Illinois when I was accepted by Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine Orthopedic Residency Program in Chicago where I completed both my internship and residency training. I then gained additional advanced training by completing an Adult Reconstruction Hip and Knee Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.
During residency, I developed my interest in the orthopedic sub-specialty of total joint replacement. Of all surgical fields, I believe total joint replacement provides the best results and most importantly, not only provides patients with pain relief, but gives them back the lifestyles they love. As a hip and knee surgeon, I find it an honor and a privilege to return patients’ trust by giving them back the ability to pursue an active life.
In my practice, I have a special interest in outpatient and minimally invasive surgery, the Direct Anterior Approach for total hip replacement, and complex revision surgery. I strive to work with my patients to identify the best option for them, whether surgical or non-surgical treatment, to put an end to arthritic pain and return them to their normal lives once more.
When I am not treating patients, I enjoy playing with my chocolate Labrador, golfing, fishing, watching professional basketball, baseball, and football, and working out. My wife and I are serious foodies and enjoy just hanging out with friends and family.
Thank you for entrusting me with your care and I look forward to helping put an end to your hip and knee pain!

He listened well. Was candid and frank with his comments. Rey helpful and direct without being brusque.
Nice and methodical. Very organized and in synch with the staff. I was checked in, x-rayed and seen by the doctor in less than 20 minutes. That is a very efficient office. Ty for your care.
Mark is the guy I want doing my surgery. Very sure of himself. And good reports.
Great experience at Orthoillinois. Dr Oyer explained how surgery would go. I have total confidence in him.

Very knowledgeable and personable. Explanations top notch.
Dr. Oyer has always taken the conservative route when it comes to my care. He takes the time to answer every question clearly and I feel good about the decisions we make together.
