Dr. Mark Oyer completed an Adult Reconstruction Hip and Knee Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. During residency, he developed my interest in the orthopedic sub-specialty of total joint replacement. He has special interest in outpatient and minimally invasive surgery, the Direct Anterior Approach for total hip replacement, and complex revision surgery.

Welcome to OrthoIllinois!
I very much look forward to being able to provide your care and help you resume a more pain free and active life! I’d like to share a little background on how I came to be a total joint specialist and the focus of my practice.
I am a long-term Midwesterner, in fact my hometown is Tremont, Illinois, located southeast of Peoria in central Illinois. Growing up, I spent a lot of time working alongside my father, who was a carpenter by trade. I think my earliest influences for a medical career were piqued by my mother. As a nurse, she impressed upon me the difference medical care can make in people’s lives. I also learned the values derived from hard work by helping out on my grandfather’s farm.
As a youth, I also found time for competitive activities and was a three-sport athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. It was through playing sports and sustaining various injuries that required treatment procedures that I was first exposed to orthopedics. With a growing interest in how the body works and heals, I pursued my undergraduate degree in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a recipient of two scholarships and graduating with Highest Honors on the Dean’s List.
I followed my undergraduate studies at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria where I earned my medical degree as a Graduate of Distinction. I remained in Illinois when I was accepted by Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine Orthopedic Residency Program in Chicago where I completed both my internship and residency training. I then gained additional advanced training by completing an Adult Reconstruction Hip and Knee Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.
During residency, I developed my interest in the orthopedic sub-specialty of total joint replacement. Of all surgical fields, I believe total joint replacement provides the best results and most importantly, not only provides patients with pain relief, but gives them back the lifestyles they love. As a hip and knee surgeon, I find it an honor and a privilege to return patients’ trust by giving them back the ability to pursue an active life.
In my practice, I have a special interest in outpatient and minimally invasive surgery, the Direct Anterior Approach for total hip replacement, and complex revision surgery. I strive to work with my patients to identify the best option for them, whether surgical or non-surgical treatment, to put an end to arthritic pain and return them to their normal lives once more.
When I am not treating patients, I enjoy playing with my chocolate Labrador, golfing, fishing, watching professional basketball, baseball, and football, and working out. My wife and I are serious foodies and enjoy just hanging out with friends and family.
Thank you for entrusting me with your care and I look forward to helping put an end to your hip and knee pain!
Excellent Dr. Made my visit so simple.
Dr. Oyer is an excellent surgeon. He is skilled, competent and compassionate. He instills confidence and trust in his abilities and keeps the atmosphere light but informative. I am so fortunate to have found him and have referred dozens of family and friends to his care.
Doesn’t give you hope for pain relief when there is none. Able to get me in for surgery within a month

Vertical nice and fit me in at the.last minute. I actually can't wait for him to my surgery!
Wonderful surgeon. Both my husband and I had a great outcomes from joint replacements. His office and bedside manners tend to be very brusque and I find myself forgetting to ask a questions I'd written down and instead getting wrapped up in his enthusiasm and quickness and he's gone before I ever get to ask him a question
Dr. Oyer is great. My wife had same surgery two years ago with great results as well. I am up and walking with a little stiffness but no pain after two weeks. I am thrilled!
