Dr. Mark E. Farmer, M.D. is a fellowship trained Fort Myers Orthopedic Surgeon Specializing in Arthroscopic Surgery of Shoulder and Knee. Dr. Farmer specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee, in addition to primary joint replacement of the hip, knee, and shoulder. He also has extensive experience in the treatment of fractures. Dr. Farmer was the first physician in the area to perform an Osteochondral allograft transplant for the treatment of cartilage defects in the knee.
Dr. Farmer was born in London, England, attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C. for both his undergraduate and medical degrees. He completed his internship and residency at Montefiore / Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. He then pursued additional training in complex arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA.
During his fellowship, he was a team physician for the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team that went to the World Series in 1993, and the Philadelphia Wings indoor Lacrosse team. He has been the physician for the Nuveen Masters professional tennis series, AVP volleyball, and the Florida Flame NBA development basketball team, in addition to several local high school teams.
He has been a resident of Fort Myers since 1993 and a father of two sons. He is currently the Chairman of the Orthopedic Department for the Lee Memorial Health system.
His favorite and most enjoyable hobby is spending time with his sons. As an active golfer, tennis player, and skier, it gives him a unique understanding of the importance of keeping you active with minimum downtime.
