He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and completed general surgery training in Boston and Urology residency at The University of Cincinnati. He is a long-term member of the Society for Laparoscopic Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgery, and a member of multiple Urologic organizations and professional societies. He has a broad clinical practice including urologic cancer, stone disease, female urology, and prostate problems/men's health. He is a clinical professor with teaching duties for both residents and students who benefit from his wide range of interests.
Dr. Brandt is a leader in minimally invasive and robotic surgery for prostate cancer, kidney tumors, and adrenal problems and performs on a weekly basis. He has performed hundreds of advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgeries and led the team performing the first laparoscopic radical nephrectomy at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital over 15 years ago. Not every case is appropriate for minimally invasive approaches, and he was the first area physician to successfully perform bladder replacement and reconstruction following total removal of the bladder for cancer over 20 years ago.
The treatment of kidney stones is a particular area of expertise. He employs the latest technology for stone retrieval and treatment and has done thousands of stone cases with a reputation for an unmatched stone-free rate and enviably short hospital stays.
In addition, Dr. Brandt and his SBU have pioneered the use of convenient office treatments for routine concerns such as prostate enlargement and bladder cancer using in-office anesthesia and a variety of minimally invasive endoscopic treatment techniques including Greenlight Laser Surgery (PVP). He also treats incontinence using a combination of approaches emphasizing non-operative methods when possible.
“I greatly enjoy the variety in my practice, and would not be as fulfilled or challenged working in a narrow subspecialty of the field. I incorporate the latest techniques and procedures into my practice and am busy enough to build and maintain competence. After more than 20 years, my patients are a mix of old friends and new referrals with a high percentage of complex and challenging cases. I am fortunate to work closely with a talented team of nurses and my very experienced PA's Brian Hennig and Donna Mullahy who together have 30 years of experience. We strive to keep the personal touch without compromise as we incorporate technology into the practice and deliver care and results that are second to none.”

He is the best. That says it all 👏
Rushed. Left feeling like I didn’t have a clear picture of what could be going on or what my long term solutions were.
I feel like I’m in excellent hands with doc
He’s a great doctor.
I was very pleased with my visit today. Both Dr. Brandt and the nurse were great. They explained the procedure every step of the way.
Dr Brandt is an excellent communicator and he is very generous with his time.
The first thing the Dr said is why am I wasting his time when he walked into the room. I thought he was joking at first. He asked me why I paid a $60 copay at the start of the visit and how was I able to get an appointment so fast. I did not understand why he asked me until I realized at the end of the visit he thought I had Meridian insurance when he asked the nurse where he should place his lab order for “meridian”. I have Advocate Meritain insurance. I felt very dismissed about my symptoms. He kept saying that he is now behind schedule because he had to look at my CT scan images. I did not see the Dr for over an hour after my scheduled visit. He was already behind schedule. I understand that physicians have heavy schedules and are busy. However I did not come to socialize. I was concerned about my symptoms and needed some medical advice.
Really a thorough Doctor.
Super cool guy, got straight to the point. Staff was very efficient and easy to talk to. 5/5
