Dr. Ford is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who has advanced fellowship training in hip and knee replacement, resurfacing, and preservation. Dr. Ford attended medical school at the University of Texas in San Antonio where he graduated as valedictorian. He then completed orthopaedic surgery training at the Campbell Clinic followed by a joint reconstruction fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Ford performs a large volume of primary total hip and knee replacement in the Mid-South. By utilizing advanced surgical techniques (including minimally invasive hip and knee replacement), Dr. Ford is able to perform outpatient total joint surgery in the Campbell Clinic Surgery Center.
As osteoarthritis becomes more prevalent in younger patients, Dr. Ford has taken special interest in performing procedures that allow younger joint replacement patients to stay active. Dr. Ford performs the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, a bone-sparing procedure that allows hip arthritis patients to be competitively active. Birmingham Hip Resurfacing patients often include professional athletes, marathon runners, and even weekend warriors who do not want any activity restrictions on their hip.
Dr. Ford also performs cementless knee replacement. Compared to traditional cemented knee replacement, cementless knee replacement may allow for longer survivorship of implants, thus helping younger patients avoid potential revisions later in life.
Dr. Ford serves as a tertiary care specialist in the Mid-South. He frequently performs revision total joint surgery, helping those patients with complex surgical problems that require a higher level of care. In addition, Dr. Ford performs periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) for young adult patients with hip dysplasia, and also treats other hip conditions such as Perthes disease.
Dr. Ford plays an active role in education and research at the Campbell Clinic. He educates orthopaedic residents and fellows, serves as faculty for surgeon training around the country, and participates in clinical research projects, and serves as a consultant for various hip and knee projects.
