Maneesh Bawa, M.D.

I really didn't feel that this Dr listen to my concerns. I'm have been in pain for a number of years and he did not want to pursue any testing and just did an x-ray. I don't think you can tell what's going on with my neck without further testing.

Better than excellent

I didn't see Dr. Bawa. I met with his PA and discussed the results of my annual X-ray with her so I really can't give a rating to Dr. Bawa.....

Zero! He yanked on my arm that hurts like a heart attack and pushed my injured neck back and forth while I moaned in pain. He asked me to bend over and touch my toes and I told him my lumbar had a bulging disc and was told whatever you do don’t bend down and touch your toes or the disc may slip out. I could barely drive home I still am in excruciating pain! He should be disbarred! He sent me to a doctor to get an epidural so I could sleep and no answer at 3:00. He took X-rays of my neck injury that disabled me causing me to retire early teaching in Poway. When he read the results to me he said something about the titanium screws holding C- 5 C-6 together and said something about the screws and a tear not to mention a new bulge somewhere and when I asked him to explain this injury I’ve had for 18 years he said I don’t have time there are other patients to be seen! I will get the findings on Monday but epidural doc never returned my call and now my pain is going to keep me awake all nigh

I was fortunately a new customer. Long story short I received the diagnosis of my broken ankle late on a Friday called Dr. Bawa and they got me right in for temporary cast pending surgery the following Wed. Staff super friendly and Dr Bawa got me back on my feet in two months after repairing three breaks with a plate and screws. Can’t imagine the entire process going any better. Chris

Doctor Bawa took time listening to my concerns regarding my continual back problems and demonstrated a genuine concern for my welfare. He treated me like a person and not a number.

My appt was scheduled with Dr Bawa at 2:20pm. I waited till about 3:15p until PA Colleen greeted me in the room and began the assessment. She was wonderful and apologetic for the wait. After her thorough assessment, she left and said Dr Bawa will be in shortly. 10-15 mins. pass and she returns to complete my appt. Spending over one hour waiting and Dr Bawa never coming in to see me is mind boggling. Thank you PA Colleen for taking care of me.

Knows his stuff, but could volunteer more information and alternatives. I would like it if he had asked, "How bad is your pain?", explained what he thought was causing the problem, and offered a couple of solutions. I had to fish it out of him. When asked, however, he did give me good answers and alternatives. I just felt like I had to be my own doctor -- but maybe that's good patient - doctor interaction. I have full confidence in him.

I have the highest confidence in Dr. Bawa's knowledge and competence. He performed surgery on my spine in the past so I knew I would be in good hands at my recent appointment.

L4/L5 interbody fusion completed by Dr Bawa. I interviewed 2 other surgeons and chose him because he listened, explained and spent more time with me to determine the correct path forward. I also appreciate his conservative approach. Another doctor recommended additional procedures, but Dr. Bawa determined it was better (less risk) to do less, even if there is a possibility of needing additional work later. The staff is good, the doctor is punctual. 2 weeks out from surgery, but so far I believe I made the right choice for my surgeon.

My time with him was short. He's all business, which is fine. Did not feel the warmth I did with Dr. Dodge, but I'm more concerned with having a competent doctor than the bedside manner.

This doctor made me feel like I wasn’t in any pain and since I have been dealing with it off/on, it was no big deal, maybe it’s a communication problem but I felt like he was not understanding of my on/off again back pain The thing is I don’t want surgery, I just want my pain to not be chronic and affecting my daily ADL’s and my life. I have been doing PT, acupuncture, cupping for over 13 years and the pain has only gotten worse over years, I understand I’m older but I know I don’t have to live with constant pain.

I will forever be grateful that Dr. Bawa came into my life at the recent crucial, vulnerable, timely point that he did. He delivered difficult information with grace and empathy. He also reached out to colleagues and five days later I was in the hospital, received a biopsy, and he performed a procedure on three lumbar vertebrae that by the eighth day resulted in the utterly remarkable disappearance of the daily pelvic storms of pain. I am certain Dr. Bawa will be doing me and many others further great good.

Dr. Bawa is a good listener. I feel that he truly cares about me and offers possible treatments and solutions for my problems.

Appreciate him spending time to hear my problems.

Dr. Bawa knew what I needed, ordered the scans, and I was able to follow up just four days later. When results potentially looked serious, he looked me in the eye, shared his concerns, and I really felt a particular empathy, looking at each other, masked but eye to eye. He also offered one possible procedure that offered hope to reduce some of the pain and that was minimally invasive. Part of me can't wait to get that procedure and get through the couple weeks of recovery, MAYBE LESS. His knowledge and quick follow-up on orders, and communication with my PCP were obvious and reassuring! We have things to do!

I went to Dr. Bawa after my former orthopaedic surgeon failed to answer my questions why I was in such grave pain after an epidural. Dr. Bawa examined my MRI and found an injured disc from a fall five months ago. He also clarified my concerns of a peripheral spinal or sciatic nerve injury. He was very attentive to my complaints and concerns. I now have a better understanding of why and where the pain is coming from and a direction to go with recovery.

Very brief and stoic. Dr. Bawa did answer my questions, and was professional, but didn't seem to have the care and compassion that would make me more comfortable and confident. Seemed too businesslike. Like so many doctors (fortunately not all) they seem to treat being a doctor more as a business, which it seems the medical industry has become. There are exceptions to this, of course.

Dr. Bawa was thorough in his evaluation & suggested several approach’s of various degrees to my concern, of which he was concise in explaining to me. I left feeling good that I had some options to consider. Office staff was equally as pleasant.

Took a long time to get my referral. After the appointment it took over 30 minutes to get the referral for physical therapy written up.

The doctor cut me off when I was trying to explain my pain, dismissed my feelings, and made me feel like my problems weren’t worth his time.

Very abrupt. The doctor I saw wasn't the guy in that picture. I understand that he's busy but I need a bit more empathy from someone who's about to cut into my spine. Most surgeons are far more attentive on a first meeting.

Awesome doctor makes you feel is though he really cares. I like the fact that he will give me a straightforward answer to a straightforward question

The best. Relieved the intense pain I was experiencing. Very professional and accessible. Will answer all questions. Does not rush into surgery and tries conservative methods. But if surgery is necessary, he is great. Several other physicians recommended him also and he is there choice.

Doctor was rushed and didn't spend sufficient time. Could have given a printout of summary of the visit on next steps. He gave overall good recommendation and was not rushing through with surgery, and suggested conservative treatment first.

Dr. Bawa’s Attention to patient concerns and comfort are of the first order of magnitude. He is very thorough and maintains a high level of current scientific, medical and surgical technological advances. A superb physician and surgeon.

I wish I could of had a little more feedback or have been asked how this episode came on. This could possibly have even given the Doctor more insight. I know he is very busy but I am fearful of this happening. I have been so good for so many years and this scares me!
