He earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was elected chief resident. He furthered his training at the prestigious Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN, for his fellowship in Hand/Upper Extremity Surgery.
Dr. Pomerantz specializes in the care of the entire arm, including trauma, sports injuries, joint replacements, nerve compression and repair, all hand ailments such as Dupuytren’s contracture, as well as microsurgical procedures. He is a team physician for the San Diego Gulls hockey team and a ringside physician for combat sports events like Mixed Martial Arts.
His research interests include orthopedic imaging, scapular disorders in throwing athletes, biomechanics of the shoulder joint, complications of surgical treatment of tennis elbow, acute synovial fluid changes in traumatized joints, and outcomes of surgery for Dupuytren’s disease. He has published research in these fields.
A native of Santa Cruz, CA, Dr. Pomerantz played many sports, including wrestling, soccer, and baseball, and competed as an amateur boxer and a professional in Mixed Martial Arts. He continues to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He also has a video channel, Cut to the Bone, where he discusses bone injuries in Mixed Martial Arts, and is active on social media @dr_lucius.
