Dr. Hempel is very nice with kids and is an extremely knowledgeable pediatrician! My son had some problems with his vision in the past and Dr. Hempel spotted it in the early stages. Same thing happened to my son’s asthma condition. Dr. Hempel noticed it right away and referred us to the allergy doctor. We are very happy with him and very thankful for his care. We would highly recommend Dr. Hempel.

Dr. Louis Hempel grew up surrounded by the beautiful horse farms of Lexington, Kentucky. He played high school basketball and remains a lifelong fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. He and his wife Sarah have lived in Brookhaven for many years, and they are members of the Capital City Club and Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. Sarah is a pediatric pharmacist who works for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Their children Sam and Hannah are graduates of The Lovett School and the University of Georgia. Sam is currently pursuing his PhD in Finance at Cornell University and Hannah is a medical student at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
For many years Dr. Hempel has enjoyed hosting MD, PA, and PNP students on rotations in our Johns Creek office. He is a community faculty member of the Medical College of Georgia, and he has also hosted students from UAB, Vanderbilt, and other institutions. Dr. Hempel enjoys mentoring high school and college students who would like to pursue a career in healthcare as well.
Dr. Hempel and his wife enjoy travel and exploring everything that Atlanta’s in-town neighborhoods have to offer, such as the Beltline Trail and Ponce City Market. They are former members of the University of Georgia Parents Counsel and they still love to promote UGA. Lastly, Dr. Hempel is happy to discuss with patient families his experiences in hosting foreign exchange students, sending his kids to summer camps such as YMCA Camp High Harbour and Duke TIP, and the college admissions process including campus visits.
