Dr. Payne is always exceptionally kind and caring. He takes time and listens to any of my concerns. He is careful to explain every procedure that he will be doing in surgery and answers any question that I have.He has replaced both of my shoulders and they are like new today.

Dr. Payne was born in North Carolina where he played basketball throughout his youth. Through sports, he had the opportunity to witness sports injuries treated by local orthopaedic surgeons; he was fascinated by the ability of those injured to return to sports. Dr. Payne majored in biomedical engineering at Duke University, where he played one semester for the Duke Blue Devils basketball team under Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K) before attending medical school at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. For his postgraduate training, Dr. Payne was awarded a spot in the orthopaedic residency program at Yale School of Medicine. Following, he did his fellowship training in shoulder surgery and sports medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, New York. While completing his fellowship, Dr. Payne had the opportunity to work with the New York Mets.
