While growing up in a nomadic military family, Dr. Lauren E. Arthur, M.D., dreamed of one day becoming a veterinarian. As she grew older, her interests transitioned to traditional medicine with a burgeoning desire to help heal patients and connect with them on a personal level.
Dr. Arthur’s dream became a reality after graduating from the University of Queensland School of Medicine – Ochsner Clinical School in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and New Orleans, Louisiana. It was there she developed a passion for general surgery.
“I was intrigued by the fact surgery offers immediate action,” Dr. Arthur explains. “If someone has a problem, you can actively implement intervention and quickly make them feel better through surgery.”
Following graduation, she completed the Ochsner Clinical School Oncology Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship. Dr. Arthur then completed both her general surgery residency and surgery research fellowship at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
While in residency, she had the opportunity to treat an underserved population, many of whom were unable to afford care. The experience proved inspiring as Dr. Arthur witnessed firsthand the positive impact medical providers can have on those in need.
“I’m honored to be able to help people feel better and receive their gratitude,” she says. “Having the privilege of saving lives through operation is extremely rewarding.”
Dr. Arthur performs general surgeries with a special focus on breast surgeries. The latter ranges from breast cancer operations to removing abscesses and other benign lumps.
At home, Dr. Arthur enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and pets. Her hobbies include woodworking, working out, and taking long walks.
