Dr. L. Dean Flanders, M.D. completed a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of California, San Diego. This training provides him with specific expertise in refractive cataract surgery including the use of the latest multifocal (PanOptix, Restor, Symfony) and astigmatism (Toric) correcting intraocular lenses. Dr. Flanders also specializes in laser refractive surgery (Lasik, PRK) and the use of Implantable Collamer Lenses to provide his patients with freedom from glasses and contact lenses. He also focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of corneal disease including both full and partial thickness corneal transplants (DMEK, DSAEK, PKP, and DALK).
Dr. Flanders education includes a degree in business management from Brigham Young University followed by attending medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. His training began at Medstar Washington Hospital Center where he completed a one-year internship in internal medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School where he served as chief resident during his final year.
