Dr. Kent Small, M.D. is a nationally recognized, board-certified ophthalmologist with over 30 years of experience specializing in retinal diseases and surgery. He earned his medical degree from Tulane University and completed his internship, residency, and two fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery and molecular genetics at Duke University.
Dr. Small served over a decade as Professor and Director of the Macular Disease Center and Retinal Research Lab at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute. He was also Chairman of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. With over $10 million in research funding, he has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and trained over 100 ophthalmologists and optometrists.
He is a member of multiple prestigious professional societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Retina Society, and The Macula Society. He has received numerous honors, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award and recognition as one of the “Best Doctors in America” and “Best Doctors in Los Angeles.”
Dr. Small is known not only for his clinical expertise but also for his compassionate, patient-focused care. His patient-centered, educational approach is trusted by nearly 300 referring physicians throughout the Los Angeles and Glendale area.
