Dr. DeFontes completed his foot and ankle surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and his orthopaedic residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He had additional training in trauma orthopaedics are the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at University of Maryland Medical Center and pediatric orthopaedics at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
During his residency training, he worked as a medical officer at the Food and Drug Administration in the division of orthopaedic devices overseeing the approval of various orthopaedic devices and implants. Dr. DeFontes received his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and is board eligible in orthopaedic surgery.
During his orthopaedic training in both Baltimore and Boston, he had the opportunity to take care of athletes of all ages including local high school, college, and professional sports teams. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive techniques within foot and ankle surgery, with the goal of getting patients back to sports and athletic activities in a timely manner.
