Internal Medicine specialist Dr. D. Keith Cobb, M.D., developed all of the skills necessary to become a doctor without leaving the state of Georgia. He was born in Glennville, GA and grew up in Greenville, GA. He received his undergraduate’s degree in music from Georgia Southern University, but later achieved his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 1993. There, he received the Jacques Scholarship Award. He also received the resident of the year award during the final year of his residency in Savannah where he also obtained an internship. It is no wonder that Dr. Cobb decided to continue his work in the state of Georgia. It’s his home.
The inspiration behind why Dr. Cobb decided to become a doctor also stretches back to his Georgia roots. The small-town doctor who treated Dr. Cobb when he was growing up became his mentor. Dr. Cobb decided to model his education after this doctor and selected internal medication as his specialty. Since then, he has become a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He became an officer at the American Associate of Medical Review and an Aviation Medical Examiner.

Dr. Cobb recognizes that medicine is not the only way you can solve problems. He also believes in the power of words to heal and alleviate pain and suffering. A distraught couple came to visit Dr. Cobb one day; their two adult children had passed away in a car accident that very morning. After prescribing them the proper medicine to help calm their nerves, Dr. Cobb realized he had no resources that he could pass along to help them cope with this terrible grief wreaking havoc in their lives. Dr. Cobb decided to write his own book that could be used as such a resource. Thus, The Grief Survival Handbook was born. The book discusses the process of grief and offers several coping mechanisms to use in the face of grief.
In April 2011, The Grief Survival Handbook was the top pick read in World Magazine and was featured in several public radio stations across America and even Ireland. The book can be purchased here but is also available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Sony Books in both print and Kindle versions. Outside of writing this book, Dr. Cobb also appeared as a guest writer for Maria Shriver.com and The Huffington Post.
Dr. Cobb doesn’t just spend his time practicing medicine or writing books. He also plants cotton during his weekends and is the vice chairman of the Savannah Salvation Army Board. His large family also keeps him preoccupied. Dr. Cobb and his wife Amy Cobb have six beautiful children who range from following in their father’s footsteps by practicing medicine to working as a youth pastor to finishing up college.
