Dr. Kartik Kumar’s clinical interests include all areas of pediatric ophthalmology such as strabismus, amblyopia, eyelid ptosis, and cataracts.
Dr. Kumar joins Moody PediEyes after serving as the Director of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Dr. Kumar grew up in Tulsa, OK, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry with a biochemistry concentration and Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology. He then completed his medical degree at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. He went on to pursue a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. After completing his fellowship, he spent 4 years as the Director of pediatric ophthalmology at strabismus at UTHealth in Houston where he was awarded the Dean’s Teaching award and selected as the Teacher of the year by the ophthalmology residents.
Dr. Kumar has numerous publications, was noted to be one of Houston’s magazines “Top Docs” in the field of ophthalmology and is board-certified in Ophthalmology. He performed strabismus surgery on Hazel from the TLC show OutDaugtered.
Dr. Kumar’s clinical interests include all areas of pediatric ophthalmology, including amblyopia, strabismus, eyelid ptosis and cataracts. His research interests include visual development, amblyopia, and the treatment of strabismus. Dr. Kumar is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) and serves as Chair of the Young Ophthalmology Section of AAPOS. In his spare time, Dr. Kumar enjoys traveling, watching and playing sports and spending time with his family.
