Dr. Julie Currin, M.D., grew up in southern West Virginia, the youngest of 4 children. She has always been drawn to babies and young children, toting around the baby or toddler at family and community gatherings. It wasn’t until college, though, when someone suggested a career path in pediatrics, that she saw a way to continue to surround herself with babies and children in her professional life.
After completing her English major at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Currin went back to her home state of WV for her first 2 years of medical school before transferring to Brown University so that she could marry her college sweetheart who was attending graduate school in RI.
The couple then moved to Baltimore, MD for Dr. Currin’s residency training at the University of Maryland, where she was awarded the Primary Care Award. In 2007, she took a job in Longview, WA for a year before moving to Portland and working in Lake Oswego. The economic downturn forced a brief return to the east coast, but she eagerly returned to Portland to join Oregon Pediatrics in 2014. Dr. Currin is also the author of Before Birth: A week-by-week guide to your baby’s development during pregnancy, a book for expectant parents published in 2015. In her free time Dr. Currin savors the joy and wonder of her own three little boys with her husband.
