He earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He concentrated in emergency medicine during his internship and residency training at Ohio State University in 2005. Afterwards, he went to Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH where he completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship.
