Dr. Joy Long is a native of Lancaster County and a graduate of Conestoga Valley High School. She received her M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002. After graduating from her residency in orthopedic surgery at the George Washington University in Washington, DC, she completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the University of Michigan.
A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Long is a candidate member of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. She is also a member of the Ruth Jackson Society for women in orthopedics.
Dr. Long has a special interest in arthroscopic knee, hip, shoulder, and ankle surgery as well as reconstructive shoulder and knee surgery.

Dr Long was thorough, explained my issue and gave clear directions

Dr Long took her time explain a surgical procedure Tony husband and me and thoroughly addressed allof our questions and concerns.
Knowledgeable but doesn’t listen. She kept asking if she was making herself clear. Which she was. But she didn’t listen very well. She kept saying “since you don’t have xyz…” and I kept trying to explain to her that yes. I do have those symptoms. Then she told me she’d only talk about about my cervical spine and completely dismissed my shoulder pain. So I kept asking questions which she ignore and continued her monologue. Maybe if her listening skills improve she’d be a better Dr. she also told me she wasn’t dismissing me. But until I ASKED her point blank about something she did indeed dismiss me.
Dr. Joy Long is the greatest Orthopedic Dr.who was very kind,knowledgable and knew exactly how to address my shoulder problem,gave me a cortisone injection which I didn't even feel.
As always, Dr. Long provided excellent treatment. I appreciate the clear explanations and alternatives that she provides.

Great compassion for her patient and takes the time to listen and interact with us. I would recommend her to anyone who needs surgery.
