Dr. Joseph Rosenbaum, M.D., is both a surgeon and a lifelong athlete. Having played baseball at the NCAA and professional levels, he brings the discipline, teamwork, and pursuit of excellence from his athletic career into his medical practice. An avid runner, hiker, and cyclist, he understands firsthand how essential hands are as tools for shaping the world. That perspective drives his commitment to helping every patient restore function and return to the activities they love.
Raised in Fair Lawn, Dr. Rosenbaum is a Bergen County native. He earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY, and is fellowship-trained in all aspects of hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow surgery. Dr. Rosenbaum completed his internship in Orthopedic Surgery at SUNY Downstate and Kings County Hospitals in Brooklyn, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at Ohio State University, where his surgical case numbers ranked in the top 1% nationwide in hand, wrist, and forearm procedures. He then completed fellowship training at the renowned Mary S. Stern Hand Surgery Fellowship in Cincinnati, gaining advanced expertise in fractures and complex trauma, arthritis, arthroscopy, tendon injuries, wide-awake surgery, and microvascular techniques. His training also included extensive experience in non-surgical management of upper extremity conditions and specialized approaches to performing minimally painful injections.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rosenbaum has contributed significantly to academic medicine. During his training, he published nine textbook chapters, five journal articles—including one on the treatment of hand injuries in athletes—and produced ten surgical technique videos presented at national meetings. His work earned him the top prize at the 2019 AAOS Orthopedic Video Theater.
As a former professional athlete, Dr. Rosenbaum has a special interest in athletic hand and elbow injuries and has cared for patients ranging from recreational athletes to competitors in the NCAA, NFL, NHL, and the Olympics.

Excelente doctor por ser la primera vez me gustó muchísimo su trabajo
Amazing experience definitely recommend it! The staff is very friendly and the doctor takes time to talk about your injury. Will definitely be back and will recommend to family and friends
Great doctor, really helped with healing my wrist fracture.
I would not recommend Dr. Rosenbaum nor would I go back to him. He is listed as one of best hand specialist in my area which is great until you visit with him. I understand that what I have may be common to him. It felt like he was there to get paid and get me out the door ASAP. He looked at his watch several times and even took a call during my visit. I honestly would just go back to his colleague who although not a hand specialist was there with me as his patient during my visits with him understanding that although he has seen this a million times I’m his individual patient and focused on my needs. I’d go back to Dr. Grau for this issue even if it isn’t his sub-specialty as an orthopedist.
Thorough and knowledgeable
