As a native Hoosier, Dr. Joseph Moriarity, O.D., is pleased to now be living in Richmond. During his college years, Dr. Moriarity coached youth football, YMCA basketball, and served as a Sunday school teacher.
Education and Training Dr. Joe Moriarity grew up in Martinsville, Indiana. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in just three years. During his undergraduate studies, he completed an internship at The Eye Center of Southern Indiana in Bloomington. Dr. Moriarity earned the distinction of being a Kendrick Foundation Scholar, while he completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at the Indiana University School of Optometry. Dr. Moriarity began his externship training with our practice at the Eye Center of Richmond. In our over twenty years of Indiana University School of Optometry externships, we have rarely had an extern receive so many compliments from our patients. Dr. Moriarity finished his externship training with rotations at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Atwater Eye Care in Bloomington, and Indianapolis Eye Care Center in Indianapolis. All of this provided him hands-on experience in the treatment of ocular diseases including glaucoma & macular degeneration, comprehensive eye care, post-surgical care, contact lens fittings, and low vision rehabilitation.
