Jona Johnson, O.D., MBA

Dr. Johnson takes pride in high-quality vision care. She finds it important to stay up to date with the latest advancements in contact lenses, prescription eyewear, and scientific research.

“The eyes are incredible. Through a comprehensive vision exam, we are able to assess for ocular diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. But the eyes also provide a window to systemic health, and we can gain insight on diseases including diabetes and hypertension.”

“One of the reasons I love what I do is because I am able to cater my exam to the specific needs of the patient. I enjoy taking the time to understand their visual needs so I can educate and make recommendations accordingly.”

Dr. Johnson was born in Winnipeg, Canada and grew up in Happy Valley, Oregon. At a young age recognized the gratification that comes with helping others. Throughout school she was active in several sports as well as volunteer groups. After graduating from Clackamas High School she moved to New York and attended Utica College. While there, she played on the women’s ice hockey team, was active in the Asa Gray Biology Society and co-founded the college’s Pre-Med Club. At the time she did not know what career path to take but recognized that the college needed an organization to support and educate students on the many health care options available. Dr. Johnson decided to become an optometrist after seeing what a large impact they have on improving their patient’s quality of life.

After receiving her Honors Biology degree and Chemistry minor, Dr. Johnson was accepted into Pacific University College of Optometry. At Pacific she played intramural soccer and was active in student government as Vice President of her class. She used her developing optometry knowledge to participate in volunteer vision screenings and participated in a trip to El Salvador. While completing her clinical experience, she recognized the importance of business to the community and co-enrolled in the Pacific University College of Business. She received both her Master of Business Administration and Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University.

Dr. Johnson joined EyeHealth Northwest immediately after graduation and is grateful to have the opportunity to work with such a talented pool of ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, and staff. She feels honored to use her knowledge to serve patients. She is a member of the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association and the American Optometric Association. During her free time she enjoys running and has completed the Portland Marathon and several Hood to Coast events. She loves spending time with family, live music, and confesses to a bit of a coffee addiction. She believes in the importance of giving back to the community and does volunteer vision screenings for both the Washington and Oregon Special Olympics.
