Dr. Turnbull was kind and did the best he could to help me. He gave me an injection in my knee, which was not too bad and it is helping already and it’s only been one day. They were also fantastic about helping me get a referral to one of the neurosurgeons for my back. I already got a call today to schedule the MRI just one day later!

Very pleased with my visit with the doc and his team. Got to the office 40 minutes before my scheduled appointment and was seen by the doc and out of the building before my scheduled time to start. Very efficient. Needed a cortisone shot for my knee and it is working very well.

He has had to do 2 hip surgeries on my mom from falls and she is in her eighties and has done really well. I think he knows what he is doing.

He has a very negative bedside manner and needs to learn how to talk to athletes. We are not 80 year old people. You need an ortho there who deals strictly with athletes - young and older.

Dr. John M. Turnbull, M.D. is a native of Livingston, Tennessee. He returned home after extensive training to provide the residents of the Upper Cumberland region with specialized orthopedic care. Dr. Turnbull graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University, earning a degree in chemistry. As a varsity baseball player at Vanderbilt University, he was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and served as team co-captain his senior season. He then attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
While at Wake Forest, Dr. Turnbull was honored with the Resident Training Award and also served as team physician for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team.
Dr. Turnbull’s special interests in his general orthopedic practice include arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery, as well as hip and knee reconstruction. His interests also include treating sports-related injuries. Whether you are a high-level collegiate athlete or a 50-year-old weekend warrior, Dr. Turnbull will help you get back in the game.
Dr. Turnbull is a member of the medical staff at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, where he served as chief of the surgery department in 2010. He also maintains privileges at Livingston Regional Hospital and White County Hospital.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Turnbull enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He also enjoys woodworking, golfing, running, and fly fishing.
