Dr Hicks is a very polite & professional neurosurgeon that I was referred to for my Cervical neck & rt shoulder. With the help of Dr Boykin, who had me, get a MRI, I was sent to the correct specialist to get surgery as soon as possible. I'm very Happy with the process we are going through at the present time.

It was a pleasure to meet John Hicks. I went to him for some chronic lower back pain. He gave me the results of my imaging in a way that was easy to understand without being overly simplified. He gave me his opinion about what this information meant for my future, and what my options were going forward. It was an excellent experience and I would unreservedly recommend him.

Dr Hicks performs surgery of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Common procedures include discectomy, laminectomy, spinal fusion, cervical laminoplasty, disc replacement, and fracture stabilization. He has extensive experience with advanced surgical techniques and minimally invasive spinal fusion approaches such as lateral lumbar fusions and navigated screw and rod placement. He has expertise in motion preserving cervical laminoplasty and disc arthroplasty.
A South Carolina native, Dr. Hicks attended Davidson College and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. After residency at the prestigious Campbell Clinic, he completed a combined Neurosurgical and Orthopedic fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the University of Virginia. Dr. Hicks has practiced in Western North Carolina since then. He enjoys his family, cycling, whitewater sports, and any excuse to get out in the mountains.
Dr. Hicks sees patients in the Hendersonville and South Asheville office locations. He performs surgery at the Asheville Outpatient Surgery Center, Pardee Hospital and AdventHealth Hendersonville Hospital.
