Disappointed....a nice guy but he seemed distracted. I walked out with more questions than I arrived with. What makes no sense is that the doctor who referred me and Dr Hicks appear to have totally different views of my back issues. I appreciate having the appointment.

He's very knowledgeable and explains things so I can understand. He's funny, too. I think humor is essential when dealing with someone's surgery or other medical needs. He also knows his stuff.

Dr Hicks performs surgery of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Common procedures include discectomy, laminectomy, spinal fusion, cervical laminoplasty, disc replacement, and fracture stabilization. He has extensive experience with advanced surgical techniques and minimally invasive spinal fusion approaches such as lateral lumbar fusions and navigated screw and rod placement. He has expertise in motion preserving cervical laminoplasty and disc arthroplasty.
A South Carolina native, Dr. Hicks attended Davidson College and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. After residency at the prestigious Campbell Clinic, he completed a combined Neurosurgical and Orthopedic fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the University of Virginia. Dr. Hicks has practiced in Western North Carolina since then. He enjoys his family, cycling, whitewater sports, and any excuse to get out in the mountains.
Dr. Hicks sees patients in the Hendersonville and South Asheville office locations. He performs surgery at the Asheville Outpatient Surgery Center, Pardee Hospital and AdventHealth Hendersonville Hospital.
