Dr. John Hicks specializes in the treatment of structural disease of the spine. Dr Hicks performs surgery of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Common procedures include discectomy, laminectomy, spinal fusion, cervical laminoplasty, disc replacement, and fracture stabilization. He has extensive experience with advanced surgical techniques and minimally invasive spinal fusion approaches such as lateral lumbar fusions and navigated screw and rod placement. He has expertise in motion preserving cervical laminoplasty and disc arthroplasty.
A South Carolina native, Dr. Hicks attended Davidson College and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. After residency at the prestigious Campbell Clinic, he completed a combined Neurosurgical and Orthopedic fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the University of Virginia. Dr. Hicks has practiced in Western North Carolina since then. He enjoys his family, cycling, whitewater sports, and any excuse to get out in the mountains.
Dr. Hicks sees patients in the Hendersonville and South Asheville office locations. He performs surgery at the Asheville Outpatient Surgery Center, Pardee Hospital and AdventHealth Hendersonville Hospital.

Did an outstanding job. I'm 8 weeks postblumbar surgery and my back feels 15 years younger. Would highly recommend Dr. Hicks if you need lumbar surgery

His manner makes you very comfortable and he wants you to understand what your problem is and gives you options to make you feel better
