Dr. Matthews was friendly and efficient in clinical assessment. His x-rays greatly lessened my concerns about my right hip. Wished I had opportunity to talk with him about more PT to strengthen gait and balance which has been affected by my cervical surgery last July. Slow recovery but 2 months of PT at Sentara PT has helped. I feel more needed.

I’ve been to a lot of doctors: GP, specialists and surgeons. And I have been blessed because these doctors were very, very good. There have been 2 who I’ve considered exceptional. One was Dr. Clark (he did my gastric bypass) and the other is Dr. Matthews. What makes these Dr. Matthew stand apart from the rest? Dr. Mathews - from the very first moment I met him - made me feel totally comfortable in having the surgery. He was extremely clear and explicit about what he would be doing and about my recovery. After surgery, I had some complications. Dr. Matthews went above and beyond in caring for me. It’s been a long haul, but now I’m pretty much fully recovered. The level of care I received from Dr. Matthews was so exceptional that I bragged about my wonderful doctor to my family and friends. For such a young man, his knowledge, ability and calming influence go way beyond that of most experienced surgeons.
