Since December 2002, Dr. John Hammersmith has been performing comprehensive eye examinations, including prescribing eyeglasses and diagnosing eye conditions, on a full-time basis for ECVA patients.
A Tonawanda, NY native, Dr. Hammersmith graduated from SUNY Buffalo and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He received his Therapeutic Certification in 1996 and is licensed in the state of New York. A member of the American Optometric Association and the Western New York Optometric Society, Dr. Hammersmith had been on staff at ECVA since 1998.
Dr. Hammersmith resides in East Amherst with his wife, Julie, and their two sons, Jake and Timothy.

Excellent care.
Professional, friendly, listened to my concerns and addressed them. I walked away feeling I was the most important person to him at my visit.
Short wait and everyone was very nice and helpful. Dr. Hammersmith has great crew. He was great at answering all my questions.
Normally I see Dr. Cotter, however after seeing Dr H, I felt he was more friendly, approachable, and took the time to explain my eye situation more completely as well as explain alternatives i could consider. I never felt that informed and given any alternatives with Dr. Cotter. If given the opportunity i think i'd like to switch to Dr.Hammersmith!
