Since December 2002, Dr. John Hammersmith has been performing comprehensive eye examinations, including prescribing eyeglasses and diagnosing eye conditions, on a full-time basis for ECVA patients.
A Tonawanda, NY native, Dr. Hammersmith graduated from SUNY Buffalo and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He received his Therapeutic Certification in 1996 and is licensed in the state of New York. A member of the American Optometric Association and the Western New York Optometric Society, Dr. Hammersmith had been on staff at ECVA since 1998.
Dr. Hammersmith resides in East Amherst with his wife, Julie, and their two sons, Jake and Timothy.

Dr Hammersmith was assigned as the doctor to my children and I liked him so much I decided to switch to him myself. He is kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. My husband is so now going to him..
I've been a patient of Dr. Hammerschmidt for a few years. He has always been professional, kind and knowledgeable. I would recommend him to my family and friends!
Dr. Hammersmith is very nice and I believe very good. But, he did not give me a script for glasses, so I called to have it sent to me and was told I would have to come into the office to get that.
Great doctor! Punctual in appointments, kind and explained everything in detail.
Pleasant visit - I was treated professionally and efficiently. The staff was very friendly. I wish I could recall the name of the young man who greeted me. He was a breath of fresh air. The doctor was equally kind and positive.
