He treats all conditions of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine and has a special interest in less invasive or minimally invasive approaches for spinal surgery.
Dr. Clapp trained with both orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons. He completed a fellowship in adult spinal surgery at the Harvard Combined Fellowship program at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. While there he was appointed to the faculty of Harvard Medical school, and was involved in teaching residents and medical students. He has also authored several book chapters on adult spinal surgery.
Dr. Clapp is a Fellow of the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the North American Spine Society, and the Georgia Orthopaedic Society. He currently serves as the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.
Dr. Clapp believes in a patient centered approach to the treatment of spinal conditions. This involves shared decision making with the patient through education about the diagnosis and an evidence based approach to solving their unique problem. All options both non surgical and surgical are considered, and the patient is directly involved in choosing the treatment plan that best achieves their desired outcome.
