He is very assertive and friendly. I don’t think I have ever seen him without a smile on his face.

I was pleased with my overall experience. I wish he had seen me after the endoscopy when I was more awake and alert. The nurse said he saw me but I don’t remember it.

I would have liked Dr. Burney to discuss my diagnosis with me after the procedure, but I did not see him at all.

Dr. John Burney, III, M.D., chose a career in medicine because it was the perfect match of his passion for biological sciences and his "people person" personality.
“I had to do something positive with all of the comments that I received from teachers growing up that I talked too much,” Dr. Burney quipped.
Dr. Burney earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Georgia. He then received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern, Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He further specialized his skills by completing a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Emory University in Atlanta. An influential mentor, Dr. Antonio M. Granda, at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, sparked a passion for gastroenterology in him by making the field interesting and exciting.
His special interests within gastroenterology include colon screening, hepatobiliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease, reflux, and hemorrhoid banding.
Dr. Burney has been married for more than 25 years and has three children. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the guitar and bass guitar and is a big college football fan. He has also coached recreational basketball, served on the board of a soccer club, and volunteers at his church.
