I had rotator cuff and bicep repair three weeks ago. I am doing fantastic and Dr Grotting takes the time to explain things and answer any questions. He is very down to earth and friendly and he did a great job on my surgery as far as I can tell. No complications. I got the longer nerve block, and I opted for PRP and have had virtually no pain.
Would highly recommend him.

I can't say enough about Dr.Grotting. He is very personable.He talks to you like a real person. I have a very complex medical situation. He is always there for me. Always trying to figure out what can we do to figure this out. When I feel like I'm out of options he always steps up. I'm so grateful to have him as a physician.

Dr. John Andy Grotting, M.D., is a dedicated orthopedic surgeon with a specialization in sports medicine, committed to providing state-of-the-art orthopedic care for patients of all ages and activity levels.
A San Diego native, Dr. Grotting graduated from The Bishops School in La Jolla. Prior to medical school, he worked as a professional ski patroller in Lake Tahoe. He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Massachusetts, where he was honored to serve as chief resident.
Following his residency, he pursued a fellowship at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles. During this time, he helped care for several professional and collegiate teams, including the Rams, Dodgers, Kings, Ducks, and USC Trojans. He is currently a team physician for the San Diego Gulls hockey team.
Dr. Grotting's practice focuses on arthroscopic surgery, fracture care, joint replacement, nerve decompressions, and general orthopedics. His research interests include ligamentous injuries to the knee, novel reconstruction techniques, and surfing injury prevention. His global experience includes a year working at Tenwek, a mission hospital in rural Kenya, where he treated orthopedic injuries and served as faculty for the orthopedic surgery residency program.
Dr. Grotting is dedicated to treating his patients like family. He is a skier, mountain biker, and runner, with a true passion for surfing. He enjoys spending time with his wife, an ophthalmologist, and his son.
