He believes it is important to develop a partnership and dialogue with his patients, so that they understand the diagnostic process, their own unique problem, their treatment choices, and the recovery process.
He earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. He completed his post-graduate residency training in orthopedic surgery at Northwestern University, followed by a subspecialty fellowship at the Hospital for Joint Diseases. During his post-graduate and fellowship training, Dr. Shapiro gained extensive experience in elite athletic care, serving on the medical team staff for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and New York Mets.
Dr. Shapiro likes to spend time with his two boys. He also enjoys hiking, biking, and sailing.
