She continued her studies at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she completed an internship and residency in internal medicine. Her fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology were completed at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, in addition to Methodist Hospital in Houston.
