Dr. Jason Potocki, M.D. earned his medical degree from Medical College of Virginia – School of Medicine, Richmond, VA and completed his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University . Describe some of your job duties: I see and evaluate patients with various spinal conditions. The goal is usually to come up with plans to either better figure out what is causing a person’s symptoms, or to treat them. The other part of my job occurs in the operating room, where I use surgical procedures to address the problem.

What is your favorite thing about being a doctor?
Being a doctor is a great way to interact with all sorts of people you would otherwise never meet. The strength, resilience, and grace of patients still surprises me. In addition to that, I enjoy identifying problems, devising mechanical (surgical) solutions, and using my own hands to put those solutions into effect.
What is your greatest accomplishment at work?
It sounds cheesy, but my greatest accomplishment at work is having a patient be thankful and appreciative because they’re doing well. That’s it. People don’t realize how much that can fix a bad day.
Hometown: Hanover, PA
Hobbies: Reading, woodworking, restoring/rebuilding old firearms, motorcycles, backpacking, camping, dogs, any type of “project” that includes building or rebuilding something (especially if that involves a new skill or tool … and an excuse to buy a new tool!)
Family/Pets: My wife Heidi and I have 3 children named Seth, Caleigh, and Sophia. We are definitely “dog people” and currently our family includes two very lovable St. Bernards.
At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?
That depends on the day, but possibilities include any power sports dealership, Best Buy, Home Depot, Menard’s, Harbor Freight, Barnes and Noble, and Brownell’s.
What is your favorite movie or TV series?
I’d have to say that Arrested Development is my favorite TV show; it still makes me belly laugh like it’s the first time I saw it.
What is your favorite quote, and who said it?
“We are who we pretend to be, so we must be very careful who we pretend to be.” -Kurt Vonnegut
“You must face facts because they face you.” -Winston Churchill
