Dr. Jason Zook, M.D. attended Wake Forest University where he graduated magna cum laude, and he continued his studies at Wake Forest Bowman Gray School of Medicine. After obtaining his medical degree, he went on to complete his Orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he received extensive training that included experience at five different Level I trauma centers.

After obtaining his medical degree, he went on to complete his Orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he received extensive training that included experience at five different Level I trauma centers. After residency, he served as staff Orthopedic Surgeon and Department Head of Orthopedics at the US Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy. While there he received the Physician of the Year Award. He then completed a combined Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Spine Fellowship at the world-renowned Leatherman Spine Fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky.
From there, he served as Spine Team Leader and staff Orthopedic Surgeon at Naval Hospital Portsmouth. In 2011-2012 he served a tour of duty in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where he was the Department Head of Orthopedic Surgery at the NATO Role 3 Hospital. While there, he performed over 200 surgeries on victims of blasts, gunshots and a wide variety of other injuries.
Since 2013, Dr. Zook has been proudly serving the residents of the Foothills region of North Carolina.
Dr. Zook’s interests range from minimally invasive spine surgeries, such as decompressions and fusions to adult reconstructive surgery of the spine. He employs the latest cutting-edge techniques such as the use of Robotic Guidance Systems, and 3D navigation, but maintains a focus on long-standing principles of surgical technique.
He has been involved in research, has published several articles in peer-reviewed international medical journals, written textbook chapters, and has given poster presentations at national meetings. He serves as a teaching consultant for several companies to teach the latest in surgical techniques to other surgeons, and has helped develop surgical implants for use in spinal fusion procedures.
He utilizes a holistic approach to care for neck and back disorders, focusing on the incorporation of multi-modality care to ensure the best outcomes for his patients. He utilizes the services of: Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Acupuncture care, Pain Management, to name a few. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the North American Spine Society.
