Dr. Birr is one of the finest doctors I have ever had. She was thorough, persistent and was dedicated to her patients. I am happy for her but wish she wasn't retiring.

She is wonderful caring and very professional.
She has saved my life once by identifying blocked left carotid artery.
She also identified an occlusion in my left eye and saved my vision in that eye.
Dr. Janice I. Birr, O.D., joined the staff of Tyson Eye in 1992. She is a board-certified Doctor of Optometry with over twenty years of experience.
A native Floridian, Dr. Birr was raised in Cape Coral. She graduated from Cypress Lake High School and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” in her graduating class of 500 students.
Dr. Birr completed her undergraduate studies at Florida Atlantic University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry within 2½ years. She was a “Faculty Scholar” at F.A.U. with recognition for high academic achievement.
Dr. Birr did her doctorate studies at the University of Houston, one of only five college students from the State of Florida accepted into an interstate reciprocity program for medical training. She graduated magna cum laude, with high honors, in 1984. After completing her training at Corpus Christi Regional Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, she decided to return to Florida.
Prior to joining Tyson Eye, Dr. Birr practiced at Cigna Healthplan of Florida in Clearwater from 1985 to 1991. This multi-disciplinary medical center was staffed by 40 doctors of various specialties. While in Clearwater, Dr. Birr was honored as “Cigna Healthplan of Florida Provider of the Year” by her fellow doctors and staff.
