Dr. James P. Sur, M.D., earned his medical degree at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine, and completed his residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals. He then finished his fellowships in general cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at the University of Michigan Hospitals. Dr. James P. Sur, M.D., graduated Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1998. He then received his M.D. from Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine graduating Cum Laude in 2002. At Loyola he was awarded the Loyola Auxiliary Senior Scholarship, was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society as well as the Alpha Omega Alpha Academic Honor Society. Dr. Sur was also awarded the Ralph P. Leischner Memorial Scholarship given to the single senior student who exemplifies "Compassion, Integrity, Enthusiasm and Commitment to Life Long Learning."
After medical school, Dr. Sur completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals. While a resident at the U of C., he was awarded the Norris L. Brookens award by the Illinois Chapter of the American College of Physicians recognizing "The State's Outstanding Resident in Internal Medicine for His Exemplary Dedication to the Medical Profession.
Dr. Sur started his general cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals. He then completed his general cardiology fellowship and his interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, MI.
Dr. Sur specializes in both coronary and peripheral vascular interventions. He currently is performing carotid angiography and stenting. Dr Sur also is trained in the placement of intra-aortic stent grafts for the exclusion of thoracic (TAA) and abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). He has experience with the use of adjunctive interventional techniques like intravascular ultrasound, fractional flow reserve, orbital and excisional atherectomy as well. In addition, he is trained in the performance and interpretation of both transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, stress testing, and holter monitoring.
Dr. Sur has expertise in the assessment and management of patients with pulmonary hypertension. He conducts research and sees patients as part of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Dr. Sur is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology.
Dr. Sur joined Heart Care Centers of Illinois in 2009.

First time seeing Dr Sur because my previous Dr retired. He took the time to review the treatment that Dr Erickson provided and we came up with a game plan moving forward.
Dr. Sur is a terrific cardiologist - a high energy guy who is crazy smart, has amazing credentials and loves what he does. When it comes to your care he will leave nothing to chance if he can help it. He has a very scientific and organized approach and on top of it all he’s a nice human being. If you are looking for a Cardiologist you couldn’t do better.
