Dr. James H. Henick, M.D., is board-certified in interventional pain and anesthesiology. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his anesthesiology residency at Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center and a pain management fellowship at the University of Virginia.

Dr. James H. Henick, M.D., brings a unique combination of professional experiences to his role as Interventional Pain Physician. As an Air Force Colonel, Dr. Henick was the Chief Anesthesiologist at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, while simultaneously managing several academic appointments. Dr. Henick lent his services to aid in humanitarian efforts by leading Anesthesia Teams on surgical missions in the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. Dr. Henick’s training in anesthesia paved the way for his current focus on interventional pain management. Dr. Henick has called Hampton Roads his home since 2015 and is passionate about his role in helping patients effectively manage their pain.
Dr. Henick comes from a family of medical professionals. While working in anesthesia at a military center, he decided to pursue a path that allowed more personal contact with patients.

Dr. Henick’s board certification in anesthesiology is a unique and value-added skill benefiting both physicians and patients. In addition to extensive surgical experience, he is an expert on interventional pain-relieving procedures of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral areas. His extensive interventional experience includes Spinal Cord Stimulator placement, Radio Frequency Ablation, Stem Cell Therapy, Thoracic and Lumbar Kyphoplasty, and Ultrasound Guided Injection procedures. Dr. Henick’s approach to patient care is focused on the powerful premise of safe and effective treatments intended to optimize patient lifestyle.
A former skier and outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Henick can now be found chasing after his 4 children, all under the age of 10.
