Dr. James J. Guerra is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He specializes in complex shoulder and knee problems. He is an honors graduate of Northwestern University Medical School. Dr. Guerra completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and performed an additional year of advanced fellowship training in sports medicine at the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute, Birmingham, AL with internationally known sports medicine expert, James R. Andrews, MD.
Dr. Guerra is a leading innovator in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery serving as the Medical Director for Arthrex, Inc., the world’s leading sports medicine medical device company. He teaches surgeons from around the world in advanced minimally invasive techniques. He has authored over 30 publications and has lectured at national and international meetings including Germany, Austria, Mexico, Argentina and Japan. This unique experience allows Dr. Guerra to remain at the forefront of his field and bring cutting-edge medical developments to his patients here in Naples.
Dr. Guerra has a wealth of sports medicine experience. At the collegiate level, he currently serves as Head Team Physician for Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). In Naples, he is the Team Physician for the Community School of Naples as well as Gulf Coast High School. Previously, Dr. Guerra has served as the Team Physician during Spring Training for the Baltimore Orioles (MLB), and as an assistant Team Physician for the Florida Panthers (NHL).
He has been named to the prestigious Castle-Connolly’s America’s Top Doctors from 2008-present. The Castle Connolly directory is one of the most distinguished physician rating services in the country. This annual list is compiled from surveys of physicians asking them who they would go to for treatment in their specialty. In addition, Dr. Guerra has been nationally recognized as one of "America’s Top Orthopedists" every year since 2003 by the Consumer’s Research Council of America. Moreover, Dr. Guerra has been recognized as one of the top 5% in his field by Key Professional’s rigorous rating service and has been included in their annual "Super Doctors" list since 2007.

In addition to being an excellent surgeon, he is also very attentive and caring. His staff (PA’s, PT and office staff) are also knowledgeable, caring and responsive. Highly recommend.

I had an excellent experience with my surgeon. From the very beginning, he made me feel confident and well-informed about my procedure. The surgery went smoothly, and my recovery has been going very well so far. I truly appreciate his professionalism, attention to detail, and the care he shows for his patients. I’ve had minimal pain, and everything has been progressing exactly as expected. His team was also very supportive and attentive throughout the entire process. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a skilled and trustworthy surgeon. Thank you again for everything.
Dr Guerra is simply the best! With my total knee replacement using bone marrow and stem cell procedure, I had no pain, did not use a walker after three days and no cane. I followed all his instructions before and after thoroughly!
Dr Guerra and his team are empathetic competent and very caring. Went to several doctors in Naples prior to meeting him. No other doctor was this responsive and collaborative, treating the patient not the ailment. Had total knee replacement, I was expecting the worst and it was easier than expected, finally pain free after my surgery! Eternally grateful for Dr. Guerra and his wonderful Team!

So many friends raved about Dr. Guerra. The only negative, they said is it might take time to get an appointment. But they said he is worth the wait. I am at my 6 week mark and am thankful I got in so quickly.
